AEQUIPA is a regional prevention research network in the Northwest Metropolitan Region. The network's core topics are physical activity as an essential component of healthy aging and health equity. AEQUIPA uses theory-based empirical research to develop, implement, and evaluate primary prevention interventions. Thus, AEQUIPA aims to strengthen the evidence base for physical activity for healthy aging and to gain new insights into environmental, social, contextual, and individual conditions for physical activity among individuals aged 65+. The network is coordinated by BIPS and includes five subprojects and two cross-cutting activities. In the subproject AFOOT, urban development strategies for the design of the living environment and public spaces are investigated, indicators for residential environments conducive to physical activity (especially pedestrian/bicycle friendliness) are identified and used as connecting factors for the assessment of consequences for health and social equity. Focusing on small and medium-sized cities in the region, a guide for interagency planning processes and practices will be developed.
