The RSA Annual Conference “Navigating Regional Transformation” took place from May 6 - 9 at the School of Economics and Management at the University of Porto, Portugal with over 850 attendees from 57 countries, including four researchers from our faculty. Dahae Lee, Lena Unger and Patricia Feiertag presented their work in two sessions, Political Activity, Participation and Co-Producing Regional Futures as well as Regional Resilience and took part in the Women’s Network event.

Our planned Special Session 42 Fostering Clarity of Co-production in Planning with five accepted papers could not take place in Porto as some of the speakers could not make it to the conference. To give all authors the opportunity to share their work with other presenters of the session and to contribute to the academic exchange, we hosted the session as an online event instead on June 16 with four presentations, facilitated by Dahae Lee.
- “What do we mean by co-production? Examining its use in the planning field” presented by Lena Unger and Patricia Feiertag (TU Dortmund University), co-authored with Dahae Lee (TU Dortmund University)
- “Beyond co-production washing: Transforming urban planning through genuine community collaboration” presented by Azul Castaneda Prado (Future of London), co-authored with Anna Odedum (Future of London)
- “A proposal for an analytical framework on the dynamics of time and power distribution in mobile urban co-policies” presented by Laura Sobral (University of Lisbon), co-authored with Burcu Ates and Predrag Milic (TU Vienna)

- “The role of co-production in a context of collaboration for water justice and governance” presented by Dayna Cueva Alegria (University of Kentucky)
During the discussion it became clear that co-production is interpreted differently especially across fields, but shared features are evident. Authors presented various frameworks which we believe might offer valuable clarity to the concept. We would like to thank all participants and look forward to future opportunities for the exchange. If you are interested in the research outcome or collaboration with us, please feel free to reach out.
